Gas Attacks Reported on UK Drivers

EtherAlert EA1000
EtherAlert Gas Alarm

The Sunday Sun newspaper has reported that a Northern-based truck driver has been gassed and robbed near Northampton whilst sleeping in his truck. The incident happened just before Christmas and has all the hallmarks of a robbery in which ‘sleeping-gas’ was used. The driver is quoted as saying that he woke with a pounding head after oversleeping. He had not heard anything during the night and only realised his trailer had been broken into when he walked round the back of his lorry. Following the incident, a spokesperson from the Northumbria police advised all lorry drivers to be ‘extra vigilant’.

Such incidents have been occuring on the continent for some time now but this report in the Sunday Sun highlights the fact that robberies involving ‘sleeping gas’ are also starting to happen within the UK.

The EtherAlert gas alarm is a product designed to help hauliers protect their drivers from such attacks. The alarm detects the gas at very low levels and sounds a siren to alert the driver before the gas has a chance to take effect. A number of haulage companies have already already fitted the EtherAlert to the cabs of their fleets.

The EtherAlert is available directly from Nereus Alarms Ltd of the UK (Tel: +44 (0)1202 731886) and costs £125. Further details can be found on their website www.nereusalarms.co.uk
