Known as the Old Man of the Sea, Nereus was a sea god in Ancient Greek mythology. He lived in the depths of the Aegean Sea and would surface to assist and advise sailors in difficulties. Generally known for his truthfulness and virtue, Nereus had the gift of prophecy which he used to aid others. Mythology also tells of his 50 Nereid daughters who were frequently seen by Greek sailors laughing and playing on the crests of the waves.
